| As one of New Zealand’s leading bassists, Tim Robertson has performed with a variety of world class musicians and forged a diverse career in music. | ||
| Starting off at the age of 8, Tim studied classically on clarinet for 6 years before picking up the saxophone and eventually, at the age of 15, discovering the bass guitar. | ||
| Tim decided to study at the Wellington Conservatory of Music in Jazz Bass studies in 1990 where he completed a Diploma of Music in 1993. The following year he took on the position of part-time bass tutor at the Conservatory. For the next 4 years Tim taught at the Conservatory while performing with many NZ and International artists including Jazz Trombonist John Fedchock (USA) and Indian Violin virtuoso Subramanium (India). During this period he performed for 3 months at the Hard Rock Café in Shanghai, China and toured NZ with an Australian/New Zealand production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ‘Cats’. | ||
| In 1998 Tim was offered a contract
for 9 months touring through Australasia with another musical theatre
show – ‘Joseph’s Amazing Multicolored Dreamcoat’ which
took him to Singapore, Malaysia, and Hong Kong. Upon returning to New
Zealand Tim was offered a teaching position at Massey University in Wellington
where he took up Acoustic bass and finished his Degree in Performance
Music. Since then Tim has become an in demand player on both electric and acoustic basses, playing on high profile albums such as the ‘When the Cats away’ live platinum album for EMI, and Tim Beveridges – ‘The Singer’ with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, and ‘Come Rain Come Shine’ with the Buddy Childers Big Band (USA) and legendary arranger Russ Garcia. |

He has performed at many of New Zealand’s Arts and Jazz Festivals with artists such as - Jan Rutherford (AUS), Denys Baptiste (UK), Anita Schwabe (NZ), and Charmaine Ford (NZ), as well as performing for many musical theatre shows such as ‘Les Miserables’ and ‘Blood Brothers’. In 2004 Tim won a
scholarship from Creative New Zealand to attend post graduate studies in
Performance Music at the Royal Conservatorium in Den Haag, the Netherlands, which he completed in May 05.
